LIGHTFOOT SPEAKS: Mayor Says ‘Diversity’ Needs to be ‘Front and Center’ in Chicago

posted by Hannity Staff - 5.21.21

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot defended her position Thursday to prioritize “People of Color” in granting one-on-one interviews; saying “diversity” must be “front and center” in the nation’s third largest city.

“It’s the two-year anniversary of my inauguration!” claimed the Mayor.

“As a woman of color, as a lesbian, it’s important to me that diversity is put front and center,” Lightfoot said.

“If I, as a black woman mayor, don’t challenge us to do better… Then shame on me!” she added.

BACKLASH! Latino Reporter Ditches Chicago Mayor Interview, Says Pols Can’t ‘Choose Who Covers Them’

posted by Hannity Staff - 5.19.21

A “Latino Reporter” from the Chicago Tribune abruptly canceled a granted interview with Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot; saying politicians should not be able to “choose who covers them,” particularly based on skin color.

“I am a Latino reporter @chicagotribune whose interview request was granted for today. However, I asked the mayor’s office to lift its condition on others and when they said no, we respectfully canceled. Politicians don’t get to choose who covers them,” posted Gregory Pratt on Twitter.

Lightfoot kicked off a political firestorm when she confirmed Wednesday she will “prioritize” media requests for “People of Color.”

“I ran to break up the status quo that was failing so many. That isn’t just in City Hall. It’s a shame that in 2021, the City Hall press corps is overwhelmingly White in a city where more than half of the city identifies as Black, Latino, AAPI or Native American,” posted the Mayor on social media.

“Diversity and inclusion is imperative across all institutions including media. In order to progress we must change,” she added. “This is exactly why I’m being intentional about prioritizing media requests from POC reporters on the occasion of the two-year anniversary of my inauguration as mayor of this great city.”

“This is an imbalance that needs to change. Chicago is a world-class city. Our local media should reflect the multiple cultures that comprise it,” concluded the Democrat.

CHICAGO CARNAGE: 13 People Shot -2 Dead- in Lori Lightfoot’s Chicago in Just 24 Hours

posted by Hannity Staff - 10.16.20

At least 13 people were injured in a series of shootings across Chicago that left 2 people dead in less than 24 hours; raising even more questions over security in the nation’s third largest metropolis.

“Two people were killed and 11 others were injured in shootings Thursday across Chicago,” reports the Chicago Sun Times. “The latest fatal attack left one man dead and another injured that afternoon on the Southwest Side.”

An additional 10 people were shot -and one killed- the day before.

A disturbing report from Cook County, Illinois released this week shows Chicago’s homicide rate jumping 52% since the Coronavirus pandemic spread across the United States earlier this year.

“The medical examiner’s office for the nation’s second-largest county said 95 percent of the victims were people of color, and Chicago has already recorded more homicides this year than in all of 2019, USA Today reported,” reports The Hill.

“That’s not gonna happen. I will see him in court,” Mayor Lightfoot said after President Trump suggested bringing in the National Guard. “It’s not gonna happen, not in my city. And I’m not confident that the president has the power to do that. But we have our lawyers hard at work and if he tries to do that and usurp the power of our governor, and myself as the mayor, we will see him in court.”
