Governor Andrew Cuomo weighed-in on the freezing temperatures sweeping across the United States Thursday; falsely claiming New York “did not have hurricanes” until the global impact of climate change.
“We did not have hurricanes in the state of New York,” Cuomo said. “We did not have superstorms in the state of New York.”
New York City and Long Island were -in fact- rocked by two devastating hurricane in the 19th and 20th century that claimed hundreds of lives. Manhattan was struck by a Category 3 storm in 1821, and Long Island was hit by a massive hurricane in 1938 that killed over 250 people across the region.
