President Trump announced Monday morning that he has ordered the “immediate dismissal of the Board of Visitors for the Army, Air Force, Navy, and Coast Guard,” in an effort to reform U.S. military service academies, Newsweek reports. Trump posted to Truth Social that “Our Service Academies have been infiltrated by Woke Leftist Ideologues over the last four years,” thus, leading him to take action to try to stop the ideology from spreading within the academies and beyond.
“We will have the strongest Military in History, and that begins by appointing new individuals to these Boards,” Trump wrote. “We must make the Military Academies GREAT AGAIN!”
According to the New York Post, “Members of the boards of visitors are appointed variously by the president, vice president and members of Congress. Presidential appointees serve three-year terms. The boards provide academy officials with advice and recommendations on the operation of each institution.”
Trump has vowed to eliminate the “woke” ideology permeating through the military academies as he and others feel reform is necessary whilst the far left has intertwined its anti-American agenda into several sectors of education and our military. Former President Biden had purged Trump’s first-term appointees to the board in September of 2021 when Biden asked 18 board members to step down, The Post reports. “The move was meant to ensure the members were ‘aligned’ with Biden’s vision for the military and to make sure they were ‘qualified to serve on them,’ then-White House press secretary Jen Psaki said at the time.”
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has made it a priority to eliminate “woke” content from America’s military. Many have praised the effort as a means to restore dignity and pride in America as opposed to shame and slander.
Hegseth has said that “our job is lethality and readiness and warfighting,” in the Department of Defense, suggesting that “woke” talking points will not be given credence in the military as it now focuses strictly on traditional military preparedness and honoring the unique values of the men and women who fight for America.
In an interview Sunday morning, Hegseth said that he will extend the reform to the department’s finances as well, welcoming the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to the Pentagon. “We will partner with them, and it’s long overdue,” Hegseth said. “The Defense Department’s got a huge budget, but it needs to be responsible.”
