Texas Governor Greg Abbott joined 106-year-old World War II veteran Al Blaschke for a little skydiving on Monday. Blaschke previously broke the world record for the oldest man to do a tandem parachute jump. Both Abbott and Blaschke jumped with professionals in separate tandem chutes.
Despite using a wheelchair since 1984, Abbott had promised to skydive with Blaschke when he first met him a year ago, according to KXAN.
Monday’s dive took place at Skydive Spaceland San Marcos, which is about 15 miles outside San Marcos in Fentress.
“As soon as that chute pulls, it’s just amazing peace,” Abbott said. “You almost feel like you’re at a standstill in the air.”
