4:05 PM ET – Gregg Jarrett, Fox News Legal Analyst and author of the upcoming release, The Russian Hoax, The Illicit Scheme to Clear Hillary Clinton and Frame Donald Trump and Sara Carter, Fox News Contributor and Investigative Reporter, take a look at a very busy week in review. The news of Gowdy commenting on documents he never saw, the lack of interest by Special Counsel to discuss or interview Stefan Halper and the truth surrounding the spying on the Trump Campaign. Jarrett’s comments on Sean’s TV show last night:
Standing alone, Rosenstein’s memo would likely make him a fact witness in a proper investigation of the Comey firing. I’ve litigated dozens of discharge cases in which the issue was the motivation for the firing. I can’t recall a single such case in which someone who recommended the discharge (here Rosenstein) to the ultimate decisionmaker (here President Trump) was not listed as a fact witness and, if the case progressed far enough, deposed.
But the McCabe memos take things further. Reportedly they claim that, in addition to writing the memo recommending Comey’s discharge, Rosenstein talked with McCabe about a conversation with Trump pertaining to the discharge. In that conversation, Trump allegedly asked Rosenstein to reference Russia in his recommendation memo.
So now, Rosenstein isn’t just writing a recommendation to the decisionmaker. The decisionmaker is talking to Rosenstein about what he wants in the memo. And what he wants in the memo is a reference to Russia.
Mueller, by all accounts, is investigating whether Trump fired Comey because of the Russia investigation. Rosenstein apparently has first-hand knowledge of how Trump viewed the discharge in relation to Comey’s handling of the Russia investigation. I don’t see how Rosenstein is not someone Mueller needs to examine.
I do see why Mueller wants Rosenstein to remain his supervisor. From all that appears, Rosenstein has done little or nothing to rein Mueller in, as he drives far afield from investigating alleged Russian involvement in the 2016 election. (h/t Powerline)
5:05 PM ET – Joe Concha, Media Aficionado, and Contributor to The Hill, takes a look at the crazy week of media between Samantha Bee’s deplorable comments about the first daughter, which she later apologized for, and the disgusting things Keith Olbermann has said on Twitter, or the horrible things that Bill Maher has referenced with the first family, Kathy Griffin’s severed head presentation, or Chris Rock’s talk of killing all the white babies; all of these people, except Kathy Griffin, have kept their job. There is a double standard. From Concha’s piece on this subject:
But on cable news, we’ll likely see this script play out:
Outrage on Fox News from its opinion hosts and most guests, with the double-standard argument fully on display.
On CNN and MSNBC, likely not very much coverage at all.
In the end, what this whole case study proves is how phony, how selective, the outrage in our media can be. Because you can’t possibly slam Roseanne and not do the same to Bee if raising the level of public discourse and decrying hateful rhetoric in all forms is the goal.
But as long as we stay in our safe spaces while predictably always picking a side, as many in this business do, the discourse will only get much, much worse than we witnessed this week. (h/t The Hill)
5:30 PM ET – Nine Line and Jeffrey Earnhardt have teamed up, and they gave back this Memorial Day to the children of slain soldiers. There are those who stand up for the families that are left behind when a soldier pays the ultimate sacrifice; this is one of those examples. Joining us today is our friend, Tyler Merrit and Jeffrey Earnhardt to talk about this awesome experience.
(Jeffrey Earnhardt is an American professional stock car racing driver. He currently competes part-time in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, driving the No. 55 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for Premium Motorsports.)
Nine Line Apparel Honored our Heroes in a VERY Cool Way
A group of veterans decided to honor their fallen brothers and sisters in a very American way over Memorial Day Weekend…
Veteran-owned, Nine Line Apparel teamed up with 11 other companies—including Black Rifle Coffee Company—to sponsor Jeffrey Earnhardt’s car in the Coca-Cola 600. The names of 617 fallen service members have emblazoned the hood of Earnhardt’s car.
In the lead-up to the race, Nine Line Apparel sold a t-shirt to benefit the non-profit, Angels of America’s Fallen, which provides support to children of fallen military members and first responders. With each purchase of a t-shirt, customers were encouraged to submit a name to be included on the hood of Earnhardt’s car.
On Sunday, Earnhardt and Tyler Merrit, CEO of Nine Line and retired Army captain, presented Angels of America’s Fallen with a check for $ 15,000.
