Democratic Sen. Mazie Hirono harshly criticized the FBI’s ongoing investigation into Judge Brett Kavanaugh over the weekend, saying the current probe “is not the kind of investigation that all of us are expecting.”
Sen. Hirono was speaking with ABC News when she was asked to weigh-in on the Senate Judiciary Committee’s decision to re-open the investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct by Kavanaugh in the early 1980s.
“There’s time, you know. The thing is that every Senate vote matters and there’s time to get to the bottom of it, even if it’s seven days. That’s bad enough, but then to limit the FBI as to the scope and who they’re going to question?” asked the Senator.
“That is…I wanted to use the word farce, but – that’s not the kind of investigation that all of us are expecting the FBI to conduct,” Hirono added.
BREAKING NOW: Senate Republicans Agree to ‘One Week Delay,' FBI Probe into Kavanaugh
Republican leadership in the Senate agreed Friday to a “one week delay” to give the FBI time to investigate allegations of sexual assault against Judge Brett Kavanaugh dating back to the early 1980s.
The request -initiated by Sen. Jeff Flake- urged Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to delay the full Senate vote just hours after Dr. Christine Ford and Judge Kavanaugh appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
“There’s going to be a supplemental FBI background investigation” Majority Whip Sen. John Cornyn confirmed Friday.
The President signaled a willingness to allow GOP leadership to reschedule the vote earlier Friday after Flake’s announcement, saying “I’m going to rely on all of the people including Senator Grassley, who’s doing a very good job.”

BREAKING: Committee ‘Votes YES’ on Kavanaugh, Flake Calls for 'One Week' FBI Probe
The Senate Judiciary Committee voted to advance Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation process Friday afternoon; ending weeks of speculation after 11th hour revelations and a series of decades-old accusations.
The official tally was along party lines, 11-10.
In a stunning turn of events, multiple Senators -including Sen. Jeff Flake- are calling for a “one week” FBI investigation, “limited in time and scope” to probe Dr. Ford’s allegations against the potential Supreme Court Justice.
The vote comes just hours after Judge Brett Kavanaugh and Dr. Christine Ford faced a series of questions from the Senate Judiciary Committee over allegations of sexual assault sometime in the early 1980s.
