Radical socialist Hasan Piker has surveyed the Democratic bench for 2028, and the far-left streamer sees only one real choice: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Piker picked the New York congresswoman over a parade of prominent Democrats during a rapid-fire interview with Zeteo founder Mehdi Hasan.
The exercise began with California Gov. Gavin Newsom and former Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel. It moved through Pete Buttigieg, Kamala Harris, Jon Ossoff, JB Pritzker, Chris Van Hollen and Ro Khanna.
When the final choice came down to Khanna or Ocasio-Cortez, Piker did not hesitate.
“AOC. It’s not even a question,” he said.
Piker made clear that his selection was not merely a preference between two finalists. Of every Democrat placed before him, Ocasio-Cortez was the only potential presidential contender who genuinely appealed to him.
“AOC is, out of all of the people that you mentioned,” Piker said. “AOC is the only one that I would like.”
Piker acknowledged that Ocasio-Cortez could face electoral resistance because of her race and gender. He argued, however, that those challenges would not necessarily prevent her from building a winning national campaign.
“These are hurdles, yes,” Piker said. “But these are hurdles that one can clear.”
His argument rested less on appealing to the political middle than on energizing the Democratic base and turning out Americans who rarely vote.
“As long as you have moral conviction, as long as you can excite the base, as long as you can actually create a unique coalition and activate low-propensity voters,” Piker said. “Which I think AOC has the capacity to do, it would be a fantastic left candidate.”
The endorsement offers a glimpse of the coming battle over the Democratic Party’s direction. Establishment contenders may arrive with executive experience, donor networks and familiar names. Piker wants a candidate capable of turning progressive enthusiasm into raw turnout.
