Canada became the second nation to completely legalize recreational marijuana at the stroke of midnight early Wednesday morning; allowing shops and markets across the country to sell cannabis to those above the legal age.
“It’s been my dream to be the first person to buy the first legal gram of cannabis in Canada, and here I finally am,” said Ian Power in Canada’s easternmost province of Newfoundland.
Provincial governments have prepared the eagerly-anticipated rollout for months; allowing each municipality to regulate the age and model of distribution. In Quebec, sales will be regulated to state-run stores -much like alcohol.
British Columbia will have just one official store open for business Wednesday.
Canada’s decision raises serious concerns for the United States Border Patrol and Customs Agents, with many wondering how US officials plan to stem the flow of marijuana into border states across the country.

UP IN SMOKE: Schumer Moves to LEGALIZE Marijuana Nationwide
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer announced Friday his plan to introduce legislation that would de-criminalize marijuana across the United States; saying the decision to legalize the drug should be left to the states.
Schumer unveiled his decision on social media, writing “It’s official. Today, I am formally announcing my plan to decriminalize marijuana at the federal level. It’s time we allow states, once and for all, to have the power to decide what works best for them.”
“I have long believed that states should function as their own laboratories of democracy. My bill is a step in the right direction aimed at removing the barriers to state legalization efforts,” he added.

Schumer’s legislation would officially remove marijuana from the list of federally scheduled substances; effectively allowing states to legalize the drug for both medicinal and recreational purposes.
