A new poll from ABC News could spell big trouble for Democrats less than one week before the Iowa Caucus, with President Trump gaining ground in potential head-to-head match-ups with his top challengers.
“The lead that many of the 2020 Democrats enjoyed over President Trump has shrunk as the impeachment trial for the president in the Senate is underway, according to a new poll,” reports The Hill.
“An ABC News-Langer Research Associates poll released Monday found Trump trailing the top 2020 Democratic contenders by just a few percentage points in head-to-head match-ups, with former Vice President Joe Biden (D) leading Trump by just four percentage points (50 percent to 46 percent) in a head-to-head contest among registered voters,” adds The Hill.
A similar survey from the Washington Post has support for Trump growing since the Democrats’ commenced impeachment proceedings.
“Trump begins reelection year more competitive against Democrats than he was three months ago, Post-ABC poll finds,” posted the newspaper on social media.

A handful of moderate House Democrats may rebuke their party on impeachment; with experts predicting between 4 and a dozen lawmakers from Trump-carried districts could vote against his removal.
“House Democratic leaders are bracing for some defections among a group of moderate Democrats in swing districts who are concerned a vote to impeach President Trump could cost them their seats in November,” reports the Washington Post.
“Lawmakers and senior aides are privately predicting they will lose more than the two Democrats who opposed the impeachment inquiry rules package in late September, according to multiple officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity to talk frankly. Two senior Democratic aides said the total could be as many as a half-dozen, while a third said the number could be higher,” adds the newspaper.
“This is a very grave decision. . . . I’m hearing all sides of it. . . . It’s mixed, it’s very mixed,” said Democratic Rep. Susie Lee of Nevada.
