President Donald Trump blasted disgraced former Rep. Eric Swalwell as allegations of sexual misconduct continue to mount, dismissing the embattled ex-lawmaker as a “bad guy” while declining to weigh in on the specifics of the claims.
“He’s a sleazebag. Always has been,” Trump told the Daily Mail. “He’s a long-timer, and he’s a bad guy. I don’t know anything about the charges, but he’s a bad guy.”
The president’s remarks come as multiple women have come forward accusing Swalwell of sexual assault, rape, and other inappropriate conduct spanning several years.
Asked directly about the accusations, Trump stopped short of addressing the details but made clear he believes Swalwell’s reputation speaks for itself.
“We’ll see what happens,” the president said.
“He’s always been a bad guy, he’s a corrupt politician, and everyone knows it, so it’s happening to him, and we’ll see what happens. Right? Let him go defend himself,” Trump continued.
The allegations have intensified in recent days, with another accuser publicly detailing claims that the married former congressman drugged, choked, and raped her during a 2018 encounter in a hotel room.
