President Trump praised Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer on Friday for “doing the right thing” and supporting the CR spending bill to avoid a government shutdown.

Congratulations to Chuck Schumer for doing the right thing — Took “guts” and courage! The big Tax Cuts, L.A. fire fix, Debt Ceiling Bill, and so much more, is coming. We should all work together on that very dangerous situation. A non pass would be a Country destroyer, approval will lead us to new heights. Again, really good and smart move by Senator Schumer. This could lead to something big for the USA, a whole new direction and beginning! DJT

Schumer announced late Thursday that he would suppor the funding bill.
“While the CR bill is very bad, the potential for a shutdown has consequences for America that are much, much worse,” Schumer said Thursday on the Senate floor.
“A shutdown would give Donald Trump the keys to the city, the state and the country,” Schumer said, later adding, “The shutdown is not a political game. Shutdown means real pain for American families.”

Most Democrats will vote against the CR. However, Senate Democrats only need to provide eight votes to help keep the government open.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez blasted the Minority Leader for agreeing to support the CR.
“There is a deep sense of outrage and betrayal,” Ocasio-Cortez told reporters in Leesburg, Virginia, where House Democrats are gathered for their annual policy retreat. She said Democrats are “texting, calling, sending carrier pigeons” to rally opposition to Schumer’s plan to advance the GOP funding bill.
“We have time to correct course on this decision. Senate Democrats can vote no. We can correct course, and that is the most important thing in front of us right now,” Ocasio-Cortez said.
