National Security Advisor Mike Waltz spoke with Sean Hannity on Thursday night about the ongoing discussions to reach a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine.

“If anyone can get us there, it’s President Trump,” Waltz told Hannity.

“We do have some cautious optimism,” Waltz continued. “Of course, both sides are going to have their demands, and of course, both sides are going to have to make some compromises.”

Hannity said he sees the rare-earth mineral deal as an important piece of how a peace deal unfolds.

“If I were to imagine how this deal unfolds, it’s going to be the rare-earth mineral deal, a component that keeps U.S. involvement and a presence in Ukraine. Maybe European troops could be in Ukraine as well. I imagine that Ukraine being a part of NATO is not going to happen and I imagine … places that are heavily populated by people from Russia — that would go to Putin in any negotiated settlement,” Hannity said.

Waltz agreed with Hannity’s take and confirmed, “we are pushing both sides together.”
