House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is poised to retake the gavel as early as Thursday; sweeping the Democratic Party back to power as liberal legislators vote on key leadership positions throughout the week.
“As the Congress gavels in for the 116th session the early votes will be the usual ones — establishing the House rules and electing the House speaker, presumably California Democrat Nancy Pelosi,” writes the Associated Press.
“Our first order of business will be to end the reckless Trump shutdown and reopen the government,” said Rep. Hakeem Jeffries of New York; adding “we will turn our attention to bringing our democracy to life and returning our government to the people.”
Pelosi’s likely leadership comes after a fierce battle with ‘Never Nancy’ Democrats; eventually agreeing to potential term limits for pivotal positions to end their planned revolt.

ARMAGEDDON AGAIN? Pelosi Warns Government Could be ‘CLOSED FOREVER’ Over Budget Fight
Likely Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi escalated her war-of-words with the Trump administration Thursday; saying the government could be “closed forever” because of her opposition to the President’s border wall.
Pelosi was speaking with reporters during her weekly press conference at the Capitol when she was asked if she planned to cave to the President’s security demands.
Pelosi predicts the government will stay "closed forever" because she is never going to fund the border wall.

“Let’s hope there won’t be a shutdown of the government. That’s a very bad thing to do, maybe the President doesn’t grasp that. That is very harmful to our country at significant cost,” said Pelosi.
“They still voted against opening up the government [the last time.] Does he want to have government closed forever? What’s this about? I know he doesn’t believe in government,” she added.
CLOSER AND CLOSER: Another ‘Never Nancy’ Democrat FLIPS for Pelosi
A recently elected Democratic congresswoman now backs Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House; reversing course from her campaign pledge to vote for new leadership should her party retake control.
Rep.-Elect Jahana Hayes threw her support behind Pelosi while speaking with MSNBC this week; saying “No one has asked me for a vote other than Nancy Pelosi.
“I came into Washington with an open mind. I said I want to hear all the information, and I want to cast a vote that’s best for the people in my state. No one has asked me for a vote other than Nancy Pelosi. You know, last week we were here for orientation and we caucused and I was of the mind, put up or shut up,” Hayes said. “Nobody came to me, and at this point I think it’s unreasonable for anyone to expect a vote when they haven’t even asked. So I’m prepared to support Nancy Pelosi in caucus tomorrow when votes are cast.”
