Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer cast his vote against the new North American trade agreement between the US, Mexico, and Canada this week; rebuking the deal because it failed to address the issue of “climate change.”
“Despite the improvements Democrats secured to better protect workers: I am voting against USMCA. Because it doesn’t address climate change, the greatest threat facing our planet,” posted Schumer on social media.

The United States Senate voted Thursday to approve the President’s revised trade agreement with Canada and Mexico; clearing the path for a new North American international pact to replace NAFTA.
“The Senate overwhelmingly passed a bill to implement President Trump’s proposed update to the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) after a mad dash to clear the measure before impeachment proceedings paralyze the chamber,” reports The Hill. “Senators voted 89-10 to pass a bill ratifying Trump’s U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), sending the measure to the president for his final sign-off. USMCA’s passage marks another milestone for Trump just one day after he cemented a preliminary trade deal with China.”

Democratic Senators launched a ‘Special Committee on the Climate Crisis’ Wednesday just hours after voting “present” and refusing to officially endorse Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’ ‘Green New Deal.’

Climate change isn’t just some partisan squabble. It’s a national & global security threat—a fact that military leaders & Trump’s own intelligence officials admit. Anyone who cares about our national security must do whatever they can to combat climate change before it’s too late pic.twitter.com/wmiVPygnHX

“We’re on offense on climate,” added Sen. Schumer -who also voted ‘present.’
.@SenSchumer: "We’re on offense on climate. Thank you Leader McConnell for accelerating our timetable.”@brianschatz, chair of this new informal committee: "The goofy stuff is done. We are treating this like the planetary emergency that it is."

DEMS DEFLECT: Chuck Schumer Calls ‘Green New Deal’ Senate Vote a ‘SHAM’
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer slammed Mitch McConnell’s plan to have a full Senate vote on the Democrats’ ‘Green New Deal’ Wednesday; calling the move a “sham” aimed at sinking the massive government program.
Schumer was speaking on the Senate Floor when he blasted McConnell’s proposed vote; saying “This is not a debate. It’s a diversion. It’s a sham.”
“I heard Leader McConnell knocking the Green New Deal,” said Schumer. “I would ask the leader—and we’re going to keep asking him, and every Republican in this chamber—what they would do about climate change, about global warming.”
