Vermont Senator and 2020 hopeful Bernie Sanders unveiled his plan to combat climate change Thursday; allocating more than $16 trillion to help the US become 100% reliant on renewable energy by 2050.
“While the Vermont senator had already endorsed the sweeping Democratic proposal to combat climate change and had teamed up with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York on climate legislation, Sanders’ climate plan provides the most detail yet on how he envisions the climate change moonshot taking shape if he is elected president,” reports USA Today.
Sanders claims the proposal will “pay for itself” over a 15 year period; requiring more than 20 million new jobs.
“Climate change is a global emergency. The Amazon rainforest is burning, Greenland’s ice shelf is melting, and the Arctic is on fire. People across the country and the world are already experiencing the deadly consequences of our climate crisis, as extreme weather events like heat waves, wildfires, droughts, floods, and hurricanes upend entire communities, ecosystems, economies, and ways of life, as well as endanger millions of lives. Communities of color, working class people, and the global poor have borne and will bear this burden disproportionately,” writes Sanders.
The proposal aims to: Create a climate justice resiliency fund, decarbonize the shipping industry, replace all shipping trucks, end greed in our energy system, and expand the climate justice movement.
“The scope of the challenge ahead of us shares similarities with the crisis faced by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in the 1940s. Battling a world war on two fronts—both in the East and the West—the United States came together, and within three short years restructured the entire economy in order to win the war and defeat fascism. As president, Bernie Sanders will boldly embrace the moral imperative of addressing the climate crisis and act immediately to mobilize millions of people across the country in support of the Green New Deal. From the Oval Office to the streets, Bernie will generate the political will necessary for a wholesale transformation of our society, with support for frontline and vulnerable communities and massive investments in sustainable energy, energy efficiency, and a transformation of our transportation system,” adds the statement.

'WORST MAYOR EVER': Bill De Blasio MOCKED at ‘Green New Deal’ Rally Inside Trump Tower
Big Apple Mayor Bill de Blasio was publicly mocked during a rally inside Trump Tower over the weekend; with countless protesters panning his decision to “ban” future construction of “classic” glass and steel skyscrapers.
“New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio faced a crowd of angry protesters Monday at a raucous rally promoting the city’s Green New Deal inside the lobby of Trump Tower, where the Democrat threatened President Trump’s family company with millions of dollars in fines if his buildings don’t comply with new environmental standards,” reports Fox News.

“Speaking in front of the same escalators where Trump launched his 2016 campaign, de Blasio blasted the president’s rollback of Obama-era environmental policies, his move to pull the United States out of the Paris Climate Agreement and his appointment of climate change skeptics to the Cabinet,” adds the article.
“His buildings are one of the biggest polluters in New York City,” de Blasio said. “Cut your emissions or we’ll cut something you really care about.”

BETO-MANIA: O’Rourke Says ‘Green New Deal’ Will Require Same ‘Sacrifice’ Made by US During WWII
Failed Texas Senate candidate Beto O’Rourke doubled-down on his support for Rep. Ocasio-Cortez’ ‘Green New Deal’ this week; saying Americans must be prepared to “sacrifice” on the same “scale” as World War II.
O’Rourke was speaking with supporters at the University of Virginia when he called on Congressional Democrats to pass the ‘New Deal,’ saying we all face an “existential challenge” posed by climate change.
“One of the reasons I like Rep. Ocasio-Cortez’s proposed Green New Deal is that it calls to mind another time in this country’s past when we faced an existential challenge,” O’Rourke said. “In that case, it was to our way of life to the western democracies, to our allies in Europe, to our fellow Americans.”
“In the midst of the Great Depression, this country was willing to sacrifice men and women all over the United States to make sure that we defeated Germany, and we won that war and for the following 75 years that we made this world safe for democracy,” O’Rourke added. “The Green New Deal calls that sacrifice and service in scale of commitment when it talks about the challenges that we face today.”
