New York Governor Andrew Cuomo unveiled his new initiative to crackdown on plastic bags throughout the state Sunday; saying the proposal “will reduce litter in our communities, protect our water and create a cleaner and greener New York for all.”
“While the federal government is taking our environmental progress backwards and selling out our communities to polluters and oil companies, in New York we are moving forward with the nation’s strongest environmental policies and doing everything in our power to protect our natural resources for future generations,” Cuomo said in a prepared statement on Sunday. “These bold actions to ban plastic bags and promote recycling will reduce litter in our communities, protect our water and create a cleaner and greener New York for all.”
Cuomo made national headlines late last year after confirming he had secured billions of dollars in tax rebates for a new Amazon headquarters in the New York City borough of Queens; sparking outrage from local residents plagued by aging infrastructure and crumbling subway lines.

CUOMO WEIGHS IN: NY Governor Says Biden is Democrats’ ‘Best Case’ to Beat Trump in 2020
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo weighed-in on the current state of the 2020 presidential election Wednesday, saying former Vice President Joe Biden has the “best case” for beating Donald Trump in a national race.
“Of all the names that are out there, I think Joe Biden has the best case,” said Cuomo after starting his third term as Governor of New York. “I think Joe Biden has the best case because he brings the most of the secret ingredient you need to win for a Democrat, which is credibility.”
“The two men have a longstanding relationship. Mr. Biden spoke in May at the New York State Democratic Committee convention as it nominated Mr. Cuomo over Cynthia Nixon for the governorship. In 2015, Mr. Biden visited New York to offer his condolences to Mr. Cuomo as he mourned his father, former Gov. Mario Cuomo. That same year, Mr. Cuomo traveled to Delaware to pay his respects after the death of Beau Biden, the former vice president’s son,” writes the Wall Street Journal.

BAD APPLES: Cuomo, De Blasio UNDER FIRE for $1.5 BILLION in Amazon Kickbacks
Governor Andrew Cuomo and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio found themselves in hot-water this week with Big Apple residents “furious” after they discovered the two leaders agreed to $1.5 billion in taxpayer subsidies for Amazon’s new headquarters in the borough of Queens.
The prominent Democrats were accused of an “immoral waste of taxpayers’ money” as a growing number of constituents griped over the massive kickbacks as the city’s infrastructure continues to age and crumble.

“I think if the takeaway from the recent election in Queens, New York City and nationally is that we should actually step up corporate subsidies and billionaires getting billion-dollar bailouts — if that’s the takeaway, somebody’s not got their fingers on the pulse of Democrats, certainly, but people generally in this country,” New York City council member Jimmy Van Bramer.
