Embattled New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez is facing an unexpected fight from his Republican challenger in the Deep Blue Garden State; raising serious questions surrounding the potential ‘Blue Wave’ predicted for this November.
According to Fox News, Menendez is in serious trouble against GOP candidate Bob Hugin; who is spending millions to highlight the Senator’s troubled past and ethics issues.
“Menendez went on trial in federal court last year, accused of illegally accepting gifts from a wealthy donor. A mistrial was declared after the jury failed to reach a verdict, but later, the Senate Ethics Committee ‘severely admonished’ Menendez,” writes Fox News.
“This guy is an amazing textbook picture of corruption,” Hugin told Fox, adding Menendez has “embarrassed the state in so many different ways.”
Recent polling has Menendez with a seven-point lead. New Jersey hasn’t sent a Republican to the US Senate in 46 years.

MENENDEZ MISTRIAL: The Liberal Senator WALKS After Jury Deadlock
A federal judge presiding over New Jersey Senator Robert Menendez’ bribery case has officially declared a mistrial, releasing jurors after they failed twice to reach a unanimous decision over the liberal legislator’s prosecution, reports Fox News.
“There’s no alternative to declaring a mistrial,” U.S. District Court Judge William Walls said Thursday.
The judge’s decision comes hours after jurors notified the court they were at an impasse, with both sides digging and neither believing they could be convinced otherwise.
“I think we have a for-real hung jury,” said Menendez’ attorney Abbe Lowell.
It remains unclear if federal prosecutors will re-file paperwork and bring another trial before a new jury, citing escalating costs and no guarantee that a future case would yield a conviction of the liberal Senator.
Menendez was accused of bribery, securing visas for foreign visitors, flying in private jets on donation funds, and accepting tens of thousands of dollars in questionable finances.
Should the Democratic lawmaker decide to step-down, outgoing New Jersey Governor Chris Christie will appoint his successor.
EXPOSED: Media Matters DEFENDS DEMOCRATS on Sex Scandals
“Media Matters is not some kind of ‘media watchdog.’ It’s a Clinton guard dog that also protects any liberal who wanders into a minefield of self-inflicted damage,” adds the author. “All of which is exactly why Media Matters has developed such a horrific reputation.”
