Following Donna Brazile’s bombshell revelation last year that Hillary Clinton effectively rigged the Democratic primary against Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, the DNC is now considering dropping superdelegates from their nomination process entirely, reports the Hill.
Democratic officials are struggling to right-the-ship following months of sagging poll numbers and liberal infighting over the future of the party; with the Rules and Bylaws Committee weighing whether they should abandon the use of superdelegates in the 2020 primaries.
The superdelegates -voting party members who are not required to follow a particular states’ choice during the nomination process- were a hot-button issue during Hillary Clinton’s primary battle against Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.
Despite having a relatively close pledged delegate count, Clinton won 602 superdelegates compared with Sanders’ 48; enough to sway the primary process in Hillary’s favor.
“The committee is expected to agree on a proposal ahead of the next Democratic Party meeting, which will take place this summer or fall. The proposal will come up for a final vote at that meeting,” writes the Hill.
BRAZILE BACKLASH: DNC Boss REFUSES to Acknowledge Hillary 'Rigged' Election
Democratic National Committee chair Tom Perez continues to deflect questions over Hillary Clinton’s secret takeover of the DNC, repeatedly refusing to answer questions over whether the former Secretary of State stole the nomination from Senator Bernie Sanders.
Perez was speaking with Fox News this week when he was pressed over Donna Brazile’s recent allegations that the Hillary Campaign seized control of the Democratic Party nearly a year before securing the nomination.
“I’ve got to ask you about Donna Brazile, Tom. Obviously, she’s railing against the DNC in her new book. We’ve seen her all over the place revealing fresh divides within the party in the aftermath of the 2016 election,” said Fox’s Maria Bartiromo. “What is going on, Tom?”
“Donna’s a good friend and I think you need to ask her that question,” Perez said. “What I can tell you, Maria, is that I was out on the stump everywhere and there wasn’t one person who asked me about Donna Brazile and the past. They were asking me about their health care; they wanted to continue the process that Terry McAuliffe has made in Virginia. They wanted to make sure we had people uniting us and not dividing us.”
“Obviously there was a real division within the Party, Tom,” fired-back Bartiromo. “It was rigged, everybody was behind Hillary Clinton and not Bernie Sanders.”
Watch Tom Perez dodge the question above.
DNC IN RUINS: Donna Brazile COMES CLEAN on Schultz, Hillary, Obama
Excerpts from former DNC Chief Donna Brazile’s upcoming memoir continues to send shockwaves in Democratic circles as the Clinton insider spills the beans on Debbie Schultz, Hillary, Obama, and others.
An excerpt, titled “Inside Hillary Clinton’s Secret Takeover of the DNC” was published Thursday by Politico, and illustrates the infighting, secrecy, and ultimate takeover of the Democratic Party by senior Clinton operates months before she won the nomination.
“Debbie [Schultz] was not a good manager. She hadn’t been very interested in controlling the party—she let Clinton’s headquarters in Brooklyn do as it desired so she didn’t have to inform the party officers how bad the situation was,” she wrote.
Brazile then turned her sites on Obama, saying “President Barack Obama’s neglect had left the party in significant debt. As Hillary’s campaign gained momentum, she resolved the party’s debt and put it on a starvation diet. It had become dependent on her campaign for survival.”
While the former DNC boss doesn’t say the arrangement was “illegal,” she does call Hillary’s takeover “unethical.”
“The funding arrangement with [Hillary for America] and the victory fund agreement was not illegal, but it sure looked unethical,” she added.
