A massive tornado ripped through southeastern Alabama Sunday, killing at least 23 people and injuring countless more as rescue workers dig through the rubble to reach survivors across the region.
“Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones said at a morning news conference that most of the destruction was focused in an area along Alabama Highway 51 in Beauregard that is about a half-mile wide,” reports Fox News.
“It looks almost as like someone took a giant knife and just scraped the ground. There are slabs where homes formerly stood,” he told reporters. “Whole forested areas, trees are just snapped and lying on the ground.”
“I have not seen this level of destruction ever in my experience here in Lee County,” the sheriff said. “We have not had anything of this nature before.”
“In some locations, complete residences are gone,” he added.
CHICAGO BURNING: City Officials Blame THE WEATHER for Sudden MURDER Spike
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and the city’s top law enforcement officials urged the public to remain calm as the region’s crime crisis spiraled out of control this week; suggesting “hot temperatures” was the main reason behind the recent spike in murders.
“When it’s very hot outside, we have multiple areas with crowds. … An offender, or some type of rival gang sees a large group of people,” said Chief of Patrol Fred Waller. “They take advantage of that opportunity, and they shoot into a crowd, no matter who they hit.”
Mayor Emanuel became visibly emotional while speaking on the Windy City’s South Side Monday, saying “We have a heavy heart. Our souls are burdened.”
“What we saw this weekend, it just rips at everything that I believe in,” added Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson.
The press conference came just hours after the city struggled to come to terms with a stunning spike in violence in a small 48-hour period, with 12 people dead and over 70 injured in gang warfare throughout Chicago.

APOCALYPSE NOW? Ocasio-Cortez Warns ‘World is Gonna End’ in 12 YEARS
Recently sworn-in Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez issued a dire prediction Monday; bizarrely claiming the “world is gonna end” in approximately 12 years should the US fail to address the impacts of climate change.
The left-wing superstar was speaking at an event commemorating Martin Luther King, Jr. when she warned those in attendance of the dangers posed by rising temperatures and extreme weather.
“Millennials and people, you know, Gen Z and all these folks that will come after us are looking up and we’re like: ‘The world is gonna end in 12 years if we don’t address climate change and your biggest issue is how are we gonna pay for it?'” Ocasio-Cortez said.
Cortez has touted her “Green New Deal” in recent weeks; arguing for the complete transfer of the American energy sector and economy away from fossil fuels and towards 100% renewable energy sources.
