Deadly Message: Drug Cartels Execute Officer Who Arrested Kingpin’s Son, Shot 155 Times

A Mexican drug cartel executed the police officer who arrested the son of crime kingpin ‘El Chapo’ in October; shooting the man 155 times to send a clear signal to local authorities following a deadly ambush that left nine Americans dead.

“The 30-year-old officer, only named by police as Eduardo N., was killed in Culiacan, Sinaloa on Wednesday – just three weeks after militarized police captured and then released Ovidio Guzman Lopez after a brutal shootout with cartel gunmen,” reports Fox News.

“Mexican newspaper Excelsior shared CCTV footage from Wednesday’s attack that showed the police officer parking his white vehicle outside a shopping center. Moments later, a red vehicle pulls up alongside him and armed gunmen men leap out, firing rapidly from close range,” adds Fox.

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador publicly defended his controversial “Hugs, Not Bullets” strategy in combating cartel violence Wednesday; just hours after a daylight ambush left nine Americans -mostly children- dead.

“President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador brushed off criticisms against his government’s position and reiterated Wednesday during his daily media briefing that violence was not the answer or appropriate response to the growing deaths at the hands of cartels,” reports Fox News.

“It was lamentable, painful because children died, but do we want to resolve the problem the same way (as previous administrations)? By declaring war?” he asked. “That, in the case of our country, showed that it does not work. That was a failure. It caused more violence.”

“We are carrying out a different policy because the policy that was applied during 36 years was a resounding failure and it caused a lot of damage, a lot of sadness, a lot of deaths, a lot of losses for Mexicans,” he added. “We will not continue with the same and we will show that our proposal works, despite it not being easy. We are confident that we will achieve good results.”

The victims were members of a Mormon-offshoot community that have lived in Northern Mexico for decades.

President Trump urged Mexico to “wage war” against the cartels after the daylight ambush.
