DE BLASIO on TEDDY ROOSEVELT: ‘He Did Some Things That I Think Are Deeply Troubling’

posted by Hannity Staff - 6.22.20

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio weighed-in Monday on the recent decision to remove a statue of Teddy Roosevelt from the steps of the Museum of Natural History; calling the rough-rider’s career “troubling.”

“He did some extraordinarily progressive things that we feel to this day, and he did some things that I think are deeply troubling,” said the Mayor.

From Fox News:

A prominent statue of Theodore Roosevelt will be removed from the entrance of The American Museum of Natural History in New York City after years of objections that it symbolizes colonial expansion and racial discrimination, officials including Mayor Bill de Blasio announced.

The bronze statue that has stood at the museum’s Central Park West entrance since 1940, as the New York Times reported, depicted Roosevelt on horseback with a Native American man and an African man standing next to the horse.

“The American Museum of Natural History has asked to remove the Theodore Roosevelt statue because it explicitly depicts Black and Indigenous people as subjugated and racially inferior,” de Blasio announced Sunday in a written statement. “It is the right decision and the right time to remove this problematic statue.”

“Over the last few weeks, our museum community has been profoundly moved by the ever-widening movement for racial justice that has emerged after the killing of George Floyd,” the museum’s president, Ellen Futter, told the Times.

“We have watched as the attention of the world and the country has increasingly turned to statues as powerful and hurtful symbols of systemic racism,” she added. “Simply put, the time has come to move it.”

CHAOS NYC: Rioters Loot Manhattan Stores, De Blasio Describes Situation as ‘Limited Protest Activity’

posted by Hannity Staff - 6.01.20

Rioters smashed windows and looted stores in Manhattan late Sunday night after assembling for citywide protests following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis; a situation Mayor Bill de Blasio described as “limited protest activity.”

“Fox News crews on the scene in SoHo reported hundreds of people stealing from luxury stores – including Chanel and Dior – for hours on Sunday night going into the early hours of Monday morning. The looters were seen piling shoplifted merchandise into vehicles while others rode off with the merchandise in black garbage bags balanced on CitiBikes,” reports Fox news.

“Most of the day we had large crowds throughout the city in multiple boroughs [on Sunday]. But when it got dark, things changed and it changed rapidly,” Shea said on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends” on Monday morning. “We anticipated it, but you saw large groups of people had no inclination to all this protest once it got dark, particularly in the area of SoHo between Canal and West Broadway. We had a number of stores broken into.”

CITIES SPIRAL: Crime Surges in LA, NYC, Minneapolis, Chicago, St. Louis, MORE

posted by Hannity Staff - 6.11.20

Cities are facing a growing crime crisis in the aftermath of the killing of George Floyd; with certain violent felonies spiking in Los Angeles, New York City, Minneapolis, Chicago, St. Louis and more.

“Cities including Minneapolis, where Floyd was killed, as well as New York, Chicago and Los Angeles, have seen an uptick in burglaries, shootings and even, in some cases, murders,” reports Fox News. “Floyd, a black man, died after he was pinned to the pavement on May 25 by a white Minneapolis police officer who put his knee on Floyd’s neck for several minutes, even as Floyd said he could not breathe.”

Homicides in Los Angeles, California jumped 250% last week compared to the same period last year; raising new questions over local leaders’ calls to slash $150 million from the police department’s operating budget.

“The week of 5/31 to 6/6, homicides went up 250% and victims shot went up 56% compared to the previous week. The past 24 hrs has seen 4 shootings, one of those resulting in a homicide. Detectives are following leads to ID & arrest the suspects—but we’re also asking for your help,” posted the LAPD on social media.

The LAPD is investigating a California attorney who urged people to “kill police officers” on social media then offered to “represent” them free of charge if caught.

“A California criminal defense attorney is being investigated by the LAPD for allegedly advocating that black people kill police officers and offering free representation to anyone willing to do so,” reports the Washington Examiner.

“It wouldn’t be the first time I’ve defended ‘terrorists.’ … sign me up pro bono for somebody’s granddad putting a couple hollow points right between the eyes of these PTSD-addled rednecks. I’d take one or two pro bono,” said a screenshot according to Fox Los Angeles.
