Another high-level Biden Administration official heads for the exit.
According to reports from multiple outlets, White House Communications Director Kate Bedingfield is leaving her post. Bedingfield has not announced where she plans to go next but says she will help the Admin from the outside.
She’s set to leave in a matter of weeks.
“Without Kate Bedingfield’s talent and tenacity, Donald Trump might still be in the White House, the Rescue Plan and the Infrastructure Law might still be unrealized goals, and Kentaji Brown Jackson might not be sitting on the Supreme Court,” White House chief of staff Ron Klain said. “She has played a huge role in everything the President has achieved – from his second term as Vice President, through the campaign, and since coming to the White House.”
“Her strategic acumen, intense devotion to the President’s agenda, and fierce work on his behalf are unmatched,” Klain said.
He added: “She will continue to remain a critical player in moving the Biden agenda forward from the outside.”
From Politico…
Her exit comes on the heels of Jen Psaki’s decision to step down as press secretary and during a period of internal uncertainty over the structure and makeup of the White House’s larger press operations. In addition to Psaki, a number of mid- and lower-level press aides have left in the past two months.
Democrats have grown openly critical of the Biden team’s communications strategy in recent weeks and months. Longtime Biden aide Anita Dunn recently returned to the White House as a senior adviser and has been working to shore up the operation.
Bedingfield is a longtime Biden aide who helped steer the campaign through the difficult primary contest. She served in a similar capacity for Biden when he was vice president in 2015 and was his deputy campaign manager and communications director during his 2020 run. She has largely operated behind the scenes with relationships throughout the Democratic Party.
