These are the DOGE days…
According to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, 83% of the U.S. Agency for International Development’s (USAID) programs have been canceled after a six-week DOGE audit.
The decision terminates approximately 5,200 contracts, amounting to “tens of billions of dollars” that Rubio stated were spent in ways that did not serve, or even harmed, U.S. national interests.
The remaining 18% of USAID’s programs, approximately 1,000 in total, will now be administered by the State Department, a move made in consultation with Congress.
In a Monday morning post, Rubio also thanked DOGE and its “hardworking staff who worked very long hours to achieve this overdue and historic reform.” Musk responded to the post, adding “good working with you,” calling the work “tough but necessary.”
“After a 6-week review, we are officially cancelling 83% of the programs at USAID,” Rubio posted. “The 5200 contracts that are now cancelled spent tens of billions of dollars in ways that did not serve, (and in some cases even harmed), the core national interests of the United States. In consultation with Congress, we intend for the remaining 18% of programs we are keeping (approximately 1000) to now be administered more effectively under the State Department. Thank you to DOGE and our hardworking staff who worked very long hours to achieve this overdue and historic reform.”

Elon Musk, who leads DOGE, responded to Rubio’s announcement by saying, ” It’s Good working with you. ” He described the reform as “tough but necessary.” He further commented that the State Department should have always managed the essential functions of USAID.
The restructuring of USAID aligns with the Trump 2.0’s broader objective of reducing government spending and streamlining federal operations.
