Former President Barack Obama’s ambassador to the United Nations told federal investigators that other administration officials improperly used her identity while unmasking senior Trump aides; raising serious questions over who made the requests and for what reason.
GOP Rep. Trey Gowdy was speaking with Fox News when he revealed Samantha Power’s claims that other members of the Obama administration had made the requests in her name, deflecting allegations that she had personally asked for the identities of hundreds of Americans in the run up to President Trump’s inauguration.
“Her testimony is they may be under my name, but I did not make those requests,” said Gowdy, Chairman of the House Oversight Committee. “She would say those requests to unmask may have been attributed to her, but they greatly exceed by an exponential factor the requests she actually made.”
“So, that’s her testimony, and she was pretty emphatic in it,” he added.
Samantha Power made national headlines earlier this year when intelligence officials confirmed she had personally requested the unmasking of nearly 250 individuals over the course of one year, including senior Trump officials.
