2 MILLION ENCOUNTERS: 178K Migrant Encounters in December Brings 2021's Total Over 2 Million

Joe can ignore it, but it isn’t going away.

According to U.S. Customs & Border Protection’s January court documents, uncovered by Fox News’ Griff Jenkins, 178,840 migrant encounters were logged at the southern border in the month of December —an increase from the already-staggering 173,620 logged in November.

That brings 2021’s totals over the 2 million mark.

“Of the 178,840 apprehensions, 78,589 were expelled via Title 42 — the Trump era public health order that has been kept in a limited capacity and can be used to expel migrants quickly at the southern border,” Fox News reports.

“The documents also show that 55,626 migrants were released into the U.S. Of those, 36,652 were released on an order of recognizance with a Notice to Appear at an eventual court hearing. Meanwhile, nearly 19,000 were given humanitarian parole — which is used on a ‘case by case basis’ for an urgent humanitarian or significant public benefit reason.”

Fox News’ Bill Melugin shared the story on Twitter:

“Court documents show the Biden admin already knows the number of border encounters in December, but has not yet publicly released them. 178,840 in December means more than 2 million encounters in calendar year 2021. Probably not ideal to have that out before today’s presser.”
