An Arizona delivery driver detained Tuesday night in connection with the search for Nancy Guthrie’s kidnapper was released after several hours in custody, according to his account and local reporting.
The man, who identified himself as a DoorDash driver named Carlos, said he was held without being told why.
“They held me against my will,” Carlos Palazuelos, 36, told reporters outside his home. “They didn’t even read me my rights until two hours later.”
Palazuelos said his wrists were left swollen from the handcuffs.
Standing outside his home in Rio Rico — about 60 miles south of Tucson — Palazuelos insisted he had nothing to do with the alleged kidnapping of the 84-year-old mother of “Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie.
“What the f–k am I doing here? I didn’t do anything, to be honest, I’m innocent,” he said.
Palazuelos said he was riding in a car with his wife when they noticed law enforcement vehicles trailing them. He said they pulled over and he got out.
He told investigators he works in Tucson for a parcel delivery service and may have delivered a package to Guthrie’s home, but denied any involvement in her disappearance.
“I told them, I work in Tucson for GLS, I might have delivered a package to her house but I never kidnapped anybody,” he told ABC15. “They hold me from 4 p.m. ’til now.”
Palazuelos said he had never heard of Guthrie or her daughter because he doesn’t watch the news.
“I hope they get the suspect, because I’m not it. And they better do their job and find the suspect that did it so they can clear my name, I’m done,” he said.
He said he was not told why authorities sought him out, and no charges were filed
