President Donald Trump on Friday declared that “a deal” to end Israel’s war with Hamas in Gaza and secure the release of hostages was “very close.”
Speaking to reporters outside the White House before departing for the Ryder Cup in New York, Trump said: “I think we have maybe a deal on Gaza, very close to a deal on Gaza. It is looking like we have a deal on Gaza. We’ll let you know. I think it is a deal that will get the hostages back. It will be a deal that will end the war. It will be a deal — there will be peace. I think we have a deal.”
No details of a potential agreement have been released, and neither Israeli nor Palestinian officials have confirmed Trump’s characterization. Still, the parallel statements underscored growing pressure to end the conflict.

His remarks came shortly after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the UN General Assembly in New York. Confronting a hall thinned by a walkout of delegates, Netanyahu said Hamas could end the war “right now” if it chose to.
“Lay down your arms, free all 48 hostages. If you do, you will live. If you don’t, Israel will hunt you down,” Netanyahu said at the UN.
