Bessent doesn’t see what all the fuss is about.
During Thursday’s White House press briefing, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent was asked about reports that President Trump may appear on a $250 dollar bill.
“Do you think politically it’s a good idea to put his face on a $250 bill when people are struggling to afford gas?” CNN’s Kaitlin Collins asked Bessent.
Bessent referenced the original report from The Washington Post.
“I don’t really understand this Washington Post article,” Bessent said. “It’s terribly written, terribly edited. What it basically says is that Treasury is following the law and that we’ve created the bill and that it’s up to Congress … I didn’t really understand what the story was.”
“We prepare for everything if it gets asked … we have to prepare in advance,” Bessent added. “I don’t think there is anything untoward about having the person who is President of the United States on the 250th Anniversary bill.”
