VISIT CHICAGO? Police Deploy 200 Additional Officers to Protect Downtown District After Spike in Crime

posted by Hannity Staff - 7.30.20

The Chicago Police Department is deploying more than 200 officers to the city’s downtown tourism district after visitors complained of a spike in crime including carjackings, shootings, and assaults.

“They put together a plan because of the recent uptick and are implementing that plan immediately,” said Police Superintendent David Brown.

“Recent incidents that drew the attention of authorities: Two large groups of men got into a fight Wednesday morning outside the Swisshotel, resulting in a 19-year-old man being hospitalized with a stab wound,” reports Fox News.

“In addition, Brian Hopkins, a Second Ward alderman, claims three security guards were recently hospitalized – including one with a fractured skull – because they tried to enter the site of a party that was being broken up,” adds Fox.

“Right now, you have people that believe they can do anything downtown without any fear that they will be arrested or face any consequences at all,” said one local official.

CHICAGO SPIRALS: 20 People Shot Monday, 2 Killed Hours After Funeral Home Shoot-Out

posted by Hannity Staff - 7.22.20

From Fox News:

Just hours after at least 14 people were wounded in a drive-by shooting outside of a funeral home on Chicago’s South Side Tuesday evening, two men were killed in the city in separate shootings, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

In one incident, a 30-year-old was fatally shot while sitting on a porch with a 32-year-old man. They were outside a home on West Morgan Street on the far South Side around 11 p.m. when two men approached them and opened fire, according to the Sun-Times.

The 32-year-old suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and is reportedly in fair condition.

A 28-year-old man was shot in the chest and pronounced dead in a separate drive-by shooting around an hour later.

Neither man has been identified and no arrests have been made. The investigations are ongoing, according to the Sun-Times.

Less than six hours earlier, attendees leaving a funeral for a man reportedly killed in a shooting last week were fired upon by suspects in a speeding car.

CHICAGO SPIRALS: City Asks Cops to Work 12 Hour Shifts, NO DAYS OFF, As Leaders Vow to ‘Defund Police’

posted by Hannity Staff - 6.16.20

Leaders in Chicago are now asking law enforcement officials to work 12-hour shifts with no days off while pledging to “Defund the Police Department” in the aftermath of the killing of George Floyd.

Police officers are being demanded to go above and beyond their typical call of duty to handle ongoing protests and unrest, even as political figures are calling for their departments to be defunded or abolished entirely. In Chicago, officers were reportedly ordered to work 12-hour shifts with no days off until further notice. All the while, critics — including elected officials — want to strip them of funding,” reports Fox News.

“This police system in Chicago and in the country is beyond repair, and so it’s absolutely within reason for people to say that we should tear this system down and start over,” Democratic state Rep. LaShawn Ford of Chicago told reporters

“The Chicago order took effect as tension is still high in the country following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis after a white cop kneeled on his neck for nearly nine minutes, and two days after Rayshard Brooks, a 27-year-old black man, was shot and killed by a police officer in Atlanta on Friday — in what was ruled a homicide,” adds Fox.
