A new poll from the Trafalgar Group reveals most Americans want President Biden to get tougher on China; 57.6% of respondents said the government should be “more aggressive” with the Red Threat.
From The Daily Wire:
Another 17.1% of voters opted to say the Biden Administration should “continue to do exactly what they are doing now in response to tensions with China,” while 8.8% pushed for de-escalating tensions with China “in order to appease them.” Rounding out the poll question, 16.5% said they were not sure how to answer.
Broken down by party affiliation, more than 76% of Republicans and nearly 40% of Democrats voiced support for an aggressive response. Among independents, 54% said Biden should take the aggressive stance.
The nationwide poll was conducted in partnership with the Convention of States Action, a conservative group. It surveyed 1,082 likely general election voters from February 22 through February 26, weeks after the U.S. military shot down a suspect Chinese spy balloon off the coast of South Carolina. The Trafalgar Group says the poll has a margin of error of 2.9 percentage points.
“This poll shows that Americans are rightly concerned about China’s aggressive actions towards the U.S. and want to see leadership from President Biden,” said Mark Meckler, president of Convention of States.
Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang warned the U.S. on Tuesday that the two nations are on a collision course.
“If the United States does not hit the brake, but continues to speed down the wrong path, no amount of guardrails can prevent derailing and there surely will be conflict and confrontation,” said Qin, whose new position is junior to the Communist Party’s senior foreign policy official, Wang Yi. “Such competition is a reckless gamble, with the stakes being the fundamental interests of the two peoples and even the future of humanity.”
