Less than 24 hours after Oprah Winfrey’s highly-anticipated speech at the 75th Golden Globe Awards, CNN host Chris Cillizza could barely contain his excitement about a possible Oprah presidency; saying one “could close your eyes and image that speech in Iowa.”
Cillizza was speaking with a CNN panel to weigh-in on Winfrey’s comments during her acceptance of a lifetime achievement award; where the television superstar heralded the beginning of “a new day” in America.
“So, the speech…I guess I was a little taken aback in how you could close your eyes and imagine that speech being given in Iowa, or as a campaign kickoff. That’s not to say anything, but you can close your eyes, particularly at the end,” said Cillizza.
“She’s speaking to Hollywood, she’s not speaking to Iowa, but still that message was very powerful,” he added. “Oprah is Oprah for a reason. This is not someone who blunders into things. This is not someone who doesn’t think what her words and her actions will mean.”
“You don’t give a speech like that, in that moment, with those expectations unless you know there’s going to be some talk of it,” added the host.
