DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas was absolutely torched by House GOP members during a Judiciary Committee hearing this week, with multiple members of Congress calling for his impeachment and calling him a traitor.
“My constituents want you impeached because they believe you’ve committed treason,” Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO) said during the hearing. “They compare you to Benedict Arnold. You know, no parent with the last name Arnold names their kid Benedict. They wonder what will the Mayorkas family do down the road.”
Mayorkas called the comments “profoundly offensive.”
Ranking member Jim Jordan (R-OH) asked “have you done anything right?”
“Next month you’re going to make it worse,” Jordan said, referring to the administration’s decision to lift Title 42. “We’ve never seen before you do anything right when it comes to the border.”
“How about the lost voices of people dying from fentanyl?” Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) said, holding up pictures of the victims. “Hundreds — tens of thousands of Americans dying from fentanyl. Faces. Faces of Americans. Faces of Americans across this country die because of fentanyl pouring into our country.”
Mayorkas says the lifting of Title 42 is solely based on the recommendation of the CDC.
“Our responsibility in the Department of Homeland Security is to implement the Title 42 authority of the CDC at our border and to implement it effectively and judiciously according to the law,” Mayorkas said.
