Big Apple Mayor Bill de Blasio defended his decision to defund the NYPD by $1 billion Monday morning; saying the move was the “right direction” and the money will go towards “youth programs and recreation centers.”
“There’s a lot of different pieces. We obviously took money out of the NYPD budget and put it into youth programs, social services, recreation centers. That’s really the right direction,” said the Mayor.

“The fact that we’re going to have to fight crime in many ways is also clear… We need communities to come forward through civic leadership, the clergy… They can do things the NYPD can’t do,” he added.

NIGHTMARE NEW YORK: Coronavirus, Looting, NYPD Budget Cuts Force 500,000 to Flee the Big Apple
More than 500,000 residents have fled the Big Apple since the Coronavirus pandemic began in March; citing the contagion, ‘Black Lives Matter’ protests, anti-police violence, and major budget cuts to the NYPD.
“Two bullet-ridden bodies lay sprawled on bloodstained concrete steps. Alongside, relatives of the victims are wailing and collapse to the ground. In another part of the city, a gang of youths use spray paint to disable security cameras before robbing a corner store. Later, video footage captures police officers sitting helplessly in their patrol car as a baying crowd hurls glass bottles at them,” reports the Daily Mail.
“This is lawless New York – a city that was once America’s glittering crown jewel but which risks descending into mob rule,” adds the website.
Murders, shootings, and burglaries are up triple-digits in some neighborhoods.
