Ayatollah Ali Khamenei unloaded on President Trump and the United States Wednesday; blasting the American leader for his decision to withdraw from the Iranian nuclear agreement and warning Trump will soon be “worm food.”
According to Sky News, the Supreme Leader called-out the President during a fiery speech in Tehran, saying Trump “will turn to ashes and become the food of worms” just hours after announcing his decision to withdraw from the international pact
“The body of this man, Trump, will turn to ashes and become the food of the worms and ants while the Islamic Republic continues to stand,” said Khamenei.
The Iranian ruler went on to blast America’s European allies, saying he “wants to continue” the nuclear agreement but “doesn’t trust” Britain, France, and Germany.
“If you could get guarantees from them in such a way that they can be trusted, no problem then you can continue,” he added. “If you cannot get such a strong guarantee from them, and I see it very unlikely that you can, we could not move and continue like this anymore.”
TEHRAN'S TOUGH TALK: Iran Threatens to Strike U.S. Bases in the Middle East
A senior Iranian Revolutionary Guard official warned the United States that Tehran possesses the advanced missile technology needed to strike American military bases throughout the Middle East, adding their rockets could “strike targets” over 2,000km away.
The head of the IRGC made the unprovoked warning earlier Tuesday, saying any aggression by the United States or Israel in the region would be “responded” to with a barrage of Iranian medium-range ballistic missiles.
“Based on the policies specified by the Leader [Ayatollah Khamenei], the range of our missiles is limited to 2,000km, but we have the capability to increase the range,” IRGC Maj. Gen. Mohammad Ali Jafari said. “At present it [this distance] is sufficient because the Americans are in a 2,000 km radius from our country and their attacks will be responded.”
Tensions between Washington and Tehran are at an all-time high after President Trump announced earlier this month that his administration would not certify the Iranian nuclear agreement; imposing harsh sanctions and new restrictions on the already-isolated Islamic republic.
“I am authorizing the Treasury Department to further sanction the entire Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps for its support for terrorism and to apply sanctions to its officials, agents, and affiliates,” said the President. “I urge our allies to join us in taking strong actions to curb Iran’s continued dangerous and destabilizing behavior.”
TEHRAN’S TANTRUM: Iranian Parliament BURNS US Flag, Chants ‘Death to America’
Iranian legislators chanted ‘Death to America’ and burned the US flag on the floor of the Islamic Republic’s parliament Wednesday, just hours after President Trump announced his decision to withdraw from the Iranian nuclear agreement.
The spontaneous demonstrations broke-out as other Iranian officials urged European nations to remain within the treaty, but warned that Tehran can now “begin” its nuclear energy program “without any limitations.”
“If necessary, we can begin our industrial enrichment without any limitations,” the Iranian leader said. “Until implementation of this decision, we will wait for some weeks and will talk with our friends and allies and other signatories of the nuclear deal, who signed it and who will remain loyal to it. Everything depends on our national interests.”
The President announced his decision to withdraw from the Obama-era agreement Tuesday, warning Iran they will be in a “worse situation” should they restart their nuclear or missile programs.
