No spin. No dodging. Just a socialist wish list delivered one “yes” at a time.
Democratic Socialists of America national co-chair Megan Romer openly endorsed abolishing the Senate, ICE, national borders and much of the prison system during a remarkably candid television interview Sunday.
Fox News host Shannon Bream put the organization’s platform to Romer in a rapid-fire true-or-false round.
“Abolish the Senate?” Bream asked.
“True,” Romer replied.
“Replace the presidency and Supreme Court as we now know them?”
“Yep.”
“Abolish ICE?”
“Absolutely.”
Romer also affirmed that the DSA wants to eliminate national borders and grant amnesty to people living in the country illegally, although she described that proposal as a long-term objective.
“As a long-term plan, yep,” she said.
The answers kept coming.
Romer backed defunding the Pentagon, largely abolishing prisons and placing most large corporations under government or public ownership. Fox News published the full interview.
Pressed on eliminating the Senate, Romer called the chamber “an anachronistic institution” designed to prevent ordinary Americans from exercising too much power.
“We want to expand Congress significantly, but make it a unicameral legislature,” she said.
The interview tracks closely with the DSA’s newly released “Workers Deserve More” program, which calls for abolishing the Electoral College and Senate, expanding the House and introducing proportional representation and ranked-choice voting.
The official DSA program also proposes replacing the president and Supreme Court with an executive and judiciary selected by and subordinate to Congress. It demands public ownership of the country’s largest corporations and essential industries.
The admissions immediately put fresh attention on New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, the country’s most prominent elected DSA member.
Mamdani has promoted city-owned grocery stores, expanded rent stabilization and higher taxes on wealthy New Yorkers. But he has also insisted that he does not personally embrace every plank adopted by the national organization.
“My platform is not the same as national DSA,” Mamdani said last year.
That distinction has not prompted Mamdani to leave the organization.
“It continues to be my political home; I continue to be a proud member,” he said after clashing with other socialists over his endorsements in Democratic congressional primaries.
