A series of new polls released this week show support for Rep. Adam Schiff’s impeachment inquiry evaporating; raising serious new questions over the Democrats’ decision to launch the probe less than a year before the 2020 presidential election.
A new survey from the Huffington Post / YouGov reveals just 42% of the public want Trump removed from office. A similar poll from CNN had Trump’s approval rating improve since the start of the hearings.
“Days of televised impeachment hearings have left Americans largely dug into their original opinions, a new HuffPost/YouGov poll finds, dashing Democrats’ hopes that the testimony might finally splinter the president’s base of support and Republicans’ predictions that the hearings would backfire on their opponents,” writes the Huffington Post.
According to Politico, 44% of independents back Schiff’s probe; a 3% drop since the beginning of public testimonies.
“As investigators look to continue making their case for impeachment to the public, support for the inquiry has ticked down over the past week,” adds Politico.

Early Warning: Schiff Tells Republicans to Stay Away from Biden, Whistleblower on Eve of Hearings
House Intel Chair Adam Schiff issued a dire warning Tuesday to Republican lawmakers on the eve of public hearings from his impeachment inquiry; telling legislators to stay away from Hunter Biden and the Ukraine whistleblower.
“House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff set the stage for the first public hearings as part of the impeachment inquiry by vowing to keep questions at Wednesday’s lead-off session focused on the Ukraine controversy — in an implicit shot at Republican members who have signaled an interest in turning the tables on Democrats as they defend President Trump,” reports Fox News.
“It is important to underscore that the House’s impeachment inquiry, and the Committee, will not serve as venues for any Member to further the same sham investigations into the Bidens or into debunked conspiracies about 2016 U.S. election interference that President Trump pressed Ukraine to undertake for his personal political benefit,” Schiff, D-Calif., wrote as part of a memo.
“The House’s inquiry into whether grounds exist for President Trump’s impeachment has been, and will continue to be, a sober and rigorous undertaking,” Schiff wrote to both Democrat and Republican members of the committee,

‘IT’S UN-AMERICAN’: Rep. Doug Collins RIPS Democrats’ Latest Impeachment Push
Rep. Doug Collins unloaded on House Democrats’ latest impeachment push Thursday; saying their “behind-closed-door” efforts to remove President Trump from office is “unprecedented and un-American.”
“Conducting an impeachment investigation behind closed doors isn’t just unprecedented—it’s un-American. It doesn’t afford due process, and it’s not what we’re about,” Collins told Fox & Friends.

Collins joins his Republican colleagues in their fierce criticism of the Democrats’ impeachment effort.
Representatives Jim Jordan and Matt Gaetz ripped Adam Schiff’s latest move to impeach President Trump from the Capitol Tuesday; calling his committee a “Kangaroo Court” and labeling the Intel Chair as “Captain Kangaroo.”
“What we see in this impeachment is a kangaroo court, and Chairman Schiff is acting like a malicious Captain Kangaroo,” said Gaetz.

President Trump made similar comments Tuesday morning regarding the Democrats’ obsession with his 33-minute phone call with the leader of Ukraine.
“I would love to send Ambassador Sondland, a really good man and great American, to testify, but unfortunately he would be testifying before a totally compromised kangaroo court, where Republican’s rights have been taken away, and true facts are not allowed out for the public to see. Importantly, Ambassador Sondland’s tweet, which few report, stated, ‘I believe you are incorrect about President Trump’s intentions. The President has been crystal clear: no quid pro quo’s of any kind.’ That says it ALL!” posted the President on social media.
