SEATTLE to MAYOR: ‘What Took City So Long to Take Down the CHOP?’

posted by Hannity Staff - 6.23.20

Furious residents in Seattle fumed at far-left Mayor Jenny Durkan Tuesday; asking why it took a series of shootings that left one person dead for local authorities to shut-down the ‘Autonomous Zone’ in the heart of the city.

“It was doomed to happen from Day One,” Matthew Ploszaj, who lives in the vicinity, told KOMO News. “No one wanted to say it, but I’m surprised it didn’t happen sooner. It should have ended when the Car Tender got broken and the mob went down and broke his fence. It did not have to come to this.”

“Durkan said the violence was distracting from changes sought by thousands of peaceful protesters opposing racial inequity and police brutality. She said at a news conference that the city is working with the community to bring CHOP to an end and that police soon would move back into a precinct building in the area they had largely abandoned,” reports Fox News.

“The cumulative impacts of the gatherings and protests and the nighttime atmosphere and violence has led to increasingly difficult circumstances for our businesses and residents,” Durkan said. “The impacts have increased and the safety has decreased.”

LAWLESS in SEATTLE: Mayor Says Police Will Only Enter ‘Zone’ for ‘Significant Life-Safety Issues’

posted by Hannity Staff - 6.17.20

Seattle Police Officers issued new guidelines surrounding the city’s “autonomous zone” Wednesday; saying they will only enter the area to respond to “significant life-safety issues.”

“Minor changes to the protest zone will implement safer and sturdier barriers to protect individuals in this area, allow traffic to move throughout the Capitol Hill neighborhood, ease access for residents of apartment building in the surrounding areas, and help local businesses manage deliveries and logistics,” the mayor’s office said. “Additionally all plans have been crafted with the goal of allowing access for emergency personnel including fire trucks.”

“The Seattle Police Department’s definition of life-safety issues may include an active shooter incident, an assault, a structure fire, significant medical emergency (i.e. heart attack, stroke, trauma) and other incidents that threaten a person’s life safety,” the office of Mayor Jenny Durkan said on Tuesday.

“The #CHOP has emerged as a gathering place for community to demand change of their local, state, and federal government. At the @CityofSeattle, we’ve made a few changes to facilitate first amendment activities while also maintaining safety and access for all of our residents,” she added.

The Seattle City Council passed a bill this week officially asking the state to allocate $100 million to help the region’s “undocumented workers” during the Coronavirus pandemic.

“The Seattle City Council passed a resolution Monday asking Gov. Jay Inslee and Washington state lawmakers to help undocumented immigrants who have lost their jobs during the coronavirus pandemic,” reports the Seattle Times.

“The measure urges Inslee and the Legislature to create a ‘Washington Worker Relief Fund,’ with an initial allocation of at least $100 million, ‘to provide emergency economic assistance to undocumented Washingtonians.’ The vote was 9-0, and Mayor Jenny Durkan will add her signature,” adds the newspaper.

“The governor and his staff have had meetings with community leaders on this subject, as well as other pressing issues for immigrants,” said a spokesperson for the Governor.
