ROD'S RESCUE: Paul Ryan FREEZES GOP Effort to Impeach Rosenstein

Speaker of the House Paul Ryan threw cold-water on GOP legislators’ recent push to file articles of impeachment against Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein; saying “I don’t think we should be cavalier with this process.”

Ryan was speaking with reporters during his weekly press briefing when he was asked to comment on Rep. Mark Meadows’ legislation to impeach the DOJ’s second-in-command for repeatedly ignoring House-issued subpoenas.

“I don’t think we should be cavalier with this process,” said Ryan, effectively ending the push to hold Rosenstein accountable.

Rep. Meadows and Rep. Jim Jordan -who recently announced his bid to replace Ryan as Speaker- filed the paperwork Wednesday evening, saying “we have had enough” with Rod Rosenstein.

GOP legislators introduced legislation Thursday night to impeach Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein; claiming Sessions’ second-in-command was stonewalling their investigation into the ongoing Russia probe and defying Congressional subpoenas.

Rep. Mark Meadows confirmed the bill on social media, saying “I just filed a resolution with @Jim_Jordan and several colleagues to impeach Rod Rosenstein. The DOJ has continued to hide information from Congress and repeatedly obstructed oversight–even defying multiple Congressional subpoenas. We have had enough.”

“The impeachment articles come as evidence continues to mount regarding the Department of Justice’s problematic decision making during the 2016 campaign and conduct surrounding the transition to President Trump’s administration in 2017,” the statement read.

“For 9 months we’ve warned them consequences were coming, and for 9 months we’ve heard the same excuses backed up by the same unacceptable conduct. Time is up and the consequences are here. It’s time to find a new Deputy Attorney General who is serious about accountability and transparency,” added the statement.

DEVIN’S DEADLINE: Nunes Warns of ‘HELL TO PAY’ Over Russia Docs

House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes warned DOJ officials Sunday that there will be “hell to pay” should they refuse to handover documents related to the Russian probe by Wednesday morning, reports the New York Post.

Nunes was speaking with Fox News over the weekend when he doubled-down on previous threats to hold DOJ and FBI officials “in contempt” over their efforts to stonewall the House’s investigation into the year-long Russia probe.

“There’s going to be hell to pay by Wednesday morning,” said Rep. Devin Nunes.

“We can hold in contempt. We can pass sense-of-Congress resolutions. We can impeach — I think we’re getting close to there,” he added.

Nunes’ comments come just days after multiple sources reported that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein threatened Congressional members and their staffers with ‘subpoenas’ over their role in requesting the Russia-related material.
