New York Governor Andrew Cuomo signed new legislation Monday that will allow Congressional Democrats to obtain President Trump’s tax returns; sparking a likely legal battle between the White House and liberal legislators.
“New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed a bill Monday that could allow lawmakers on Capitol Hill to obtain President Trump’s state tax returns, in what has been described as a ‘workaround’ after failed efforts by House Democrats to get the president’s federal returns,” reports Fox News.
“Previously, state tax returns had to remain private with an exception for law enforcement. The new bill — which could face a legal challenge in the future — adds an exception that says the state’s Commissioner of the Department of Taxation and Finance has to turn over information requested by the head of the House Ways and Means Committee, Senate Finance Committee, or Joint Committee on Taxation,” adds Fox.
“Tax secrecy is paramount — the exception being for bonafide investigative and law enforcement purposes,” Cuomo said in a statement. “By amending the law enforcement exception in New York State tax code to include Congressional tax-related committees, this bill gives Congress the ability to fulfill its Constitutional responsibilities, strengthen our democratic system and ensure that no one is above the law.”

CUOMO CONFUSED: NY Gov Says Florida Stealing Residents, Blames High Taxes on Trump
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo deflected criticism from his state’s massive budget deficit this week; bizarrely blaming the Trump administration for the region’s ballooning taxes and accusing Florida of stealing wealthy residents.
“This week the Governor of New York blamed budget shortfalls on the state of Florida,” writes CBS Miami. “He said New Yorkers are fleeing to the sunshine state to save big time on taxes.”
The Governor blamed the high taxes on President Trump’s recent overhaul of the outdated code, saying “Because [Trump] understands: You hurt New York, you hurt California, you’re hurting the economic engines of this nation.”
Cuomo made national headlines just days ago when he confirmed his state was facing a $2 billion budget gap after wealthy residents fled New York throughout 2018.
