REMEMBER: 1 Month Ago a Dallas Salon Owner Was Fined $7K and Sent to Jail for Re-Opening Her Business

posted by Hannity Staff - 6.05.20

Exactly one month ago, Shelley Luther defied her city’s ‘Stay at Home’ order and opened her Dallas Salon; prompting authorities to fine her $7,000, throw her in jail, and ask for an official apology.

Original Story: May 6, 2020

A Dallas salon owner will spend at least seven days in a local prison for defying the state’s shutdown order for personal care and grooming services during the Coronavirus pandemic.

“In addition, Shelley Luther was fined $7,000 for continuing to operate her business, Salon à la Mode, in violation of a judge’s temporary restraining order issued against the business. Luther was taken into custody immediately after the hearing and booked into the Dallas County jail just after 4:30 p.m.,” reports the Dallas News.

“Like other businesses deemed nonessential, Luther’s Far North Dallas salon was forced to close March 22 after the county enacted its stay-at-home order. She reopened the salon April 24 despite that order, and tore up a cease-and-desist letter from County Judge Clay Jenkins at a demonstration the next day,” adds the website.

“I couldn’t feed my family, and my stylists couldn’t feed their families,” Luther told the court. “If you think the law is more important than kids getting fed, then please go ahead with your decision, but I am not going to shut the salon.”

Texas Senator Ted Cruz received his first hair cut in three months this week at the salon whose owner was jailed for re-opening her business during the state’s Coronavirus shutdown order.

Today I traveled to #Dallas to get a haircut at Salon A la Mode, owned by Shelley Luther. Thanks in large part to Shelley’s courage, hair salons are allowed to open in #Texas today. Shelley stood up for liberty and common sense and I am proud to stand with her.

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, arrived Friday for his first haircut in three months at Salon à la Mode, one day after owner Shelley Luther was released from jail for defying the state’s coronavirus restrictions,” reports Fox News. “Cruz visited on the first day salons were legally allowed to open, saying he was proud to support Luther.”

“When people reach out with true authenticity, it’s huge,” the salon owner said. Both donned masks throughout the visit.

“It’s a nice gesture. His family actually called my boyfriend and prayed for him for 20 minutes while I was in jail. To me that’s not political… that’s just really nice people reaching out and making sure that our family is OK,” Luther told CBS 11 News.
