C’mon, Nancy! Asking for applause is not a great look.
While delivering remarks at the Inflation Reduction Act celebration on Tuesday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) had to ask the small crowd to clap for President Biden’s “inspiring vision” —it was brutal.
“Mr. President, thank you for unifying and inspiring a vision of a stronger, fairer, safer future for all,” Pelosi said, praising Biden for his “extraordinary leadership.”
“That’s an applause line,” she said, adding, “Jill was applauding.”
From CBS News:
The president, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and Vice President Kamala Harris addressed hundreds of people on the White House South Lawn to hail the enactment of the $750 billion piece of legislation. Mr. Biden signed the bill into law last month, but the White House waited until Congress returned from summer recess to hold a formal ceremony celebrating the law.
“Today offers proof that the soul of America is vibrant, the future of America is bright, and the promise of America is real,” Mr. Biden told an enthusiastic crowd. “It is real, it is real.”
Democrats faced harsh accusations of tone-deafness for holding a celebration on a day when inflation was revealed to be unexpectedly high and the stock market tanked more than 900 points.
