Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot warned residents to refrain from long runs and bicycle rides during the pandemic Thursday; saying those violating citywide ordinances could be prosecuted and fined.
“Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is warning residents not to go on long runs or bike rides in the city’s latest effort to crack down over the spread of coronavirus, even cautioning that residents could be arrested should they break the rules,” reports Fox News.
“Be smart,” Lightfoot said Wednesday, according to CBS Chicago. “Not only will our police be deployed to shut them down if you are not abiding by these orders, we will be forced to shut down the parks and lakefront.”
“You cannot go on long bike rides. Playgrounds are shut down,” she said. “You must abide by the order. Outside is for a brief respite, not for 5Ks.”
She added: “I can’t emphasize enough that we abide [by] the rules.”
“I hope that it doesn’t come to that, I hope that I don’t have to shut down the lake front, shut down all the parks, but I will,” said Lightfoot.

HAPPENING NOW: Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot Endorses Joe Biden for President
Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot publicly endorsed Joe Biden for President Friday; saying the Democratic frontrunner is the “best candidate to unite our country” and defeat Donald Trump in 2020.
“Today, I’m proud to endorse @JoeBiden for President. Joe is the best candidate to unite our country and move us past a presidency that has sought to divide us based on what we look like, what we believe, or who we love. He’s ready to lead and he’ll do it with passion and empathy,” Lightfoot tweeted.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer officially endorsed former Vice President Joe Biden Thursday; a serious blow to Sen. Bernie Sanders just days before voters in that state head to the polls.
“Working families in Michigan need a president who will show up and fight for them, and Joe Biden has proven time and again that he has our backs,” she said in a statement. “Michiganders have grit. We’re tough. We know what it’s like to be overlooked and counted out. And we know that when you get knocked down, you pick yourself up and get back to work. Joe Biden has been right there with us in the tough fights.”
“Joe Biden is the candidate we need to defeat Donald Trump in November. He’s always had our backs. Now, I’m proud to have his,” she added.
Sanders narrowly defeated Hillary Clinton during the state’s 2016 primary; beating the former Secretary of State 49% to 48%.

ANTI-ICE: Backlash Builds After Children ‘SMASH’ Piñata Dressed as ICE Agent at Chicago Block Party
A community block party in Chicago is under fire after footage emerged of children attacking a piñata shaped as a federal ICE agent; sparking widespread complaints from members of the law enforcement community.
“The event was organized by a chamber of commerce comprised of over 25 East Side businesses. A representative said they never would have imaged their event would cause commotion,” reports CBS Chicago. “But one the people behind the group that brought the piñata said they were banking on making a statement during East Side Community Day in Chicago.”
“Some parents were holding their kids to hit the piñata,” said Anthony Martinez of local activist group Los Brown Berets. “We’re just making a statement… Taking children from their parents, separating them.”
Chicago’s progressive Mayor Lori Lightfoot confirmed this week that her city will not comply with any future immigration raids; blocking ICE agents from accessing the police department’s vast databases.
“Chicago is and will always be a welcoming city that will never tolerate ICE tearing our families apart,” said Lightfoot at a press conference Wednesday.
“The Chicago Police Department will not cooperate with ICE. That means that they will not team up with ICE to detain any resident. We’ve also cut off access from ICE to any CPD databases and that will remain permanent,” she added.
