OUT OF CONTROL: Bill to Designate Water-Attacks on Police a Felony Facing Opposition from NY Democrats

posted by Hannity Staff - 8.08.19

New legislation introduced in New York State that would classify water-assaults on police officers as a felony is facing opposition from Democrats; with leaders saying lawmakers should focus on a “community response.”

“Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie threw cold water on talk of legislation that would charge thugs with a felony for drenching cops with buckets of water,” reports the New York Post. “Outraged Republican state lawmakers introduced the bill late last month following a series of dousing incidents of NYPD officers in Harlem, The Bronx and Queens.”

“Police officers should be respected, no one should be dousing them with water, particularly when they are in the midst of doing their jobs,” Heastie said. “But I don’t know if always proposing new penalties and laws [is the answer] . . . I think on the positive end, we should continue to try and establish more of a community and police response. I think that’s more beneficial instead of always saying, ‘We are going to lock people up.’”

Original story: July 29, 2019

Former NYPD Chief Louis Anemone slammed Big Apple Mayor Bill de Blasio Monday; calling the presidential hopeful’s attitude towards police “disgraceful” after footage emerged showing cops assaulted with water in recent weeks.

“He’s the chief executive of this city of New York, the largest city in this country. He has not taken the lead for security, for public security, and for supporting the police. He’s been behind, way behind,” Anemone said.

“He does not have their back. I firmly believe firmly that he does not have their back,” he added.

President Trump weighed-in on the controversy last week, writing “We love our Law Enforcement Officers all around this great Country. What took place in NYC with water being tossed on NYPD officers was a total disgrace. It is time for @NYCMayor @BilldeBlasio to STAND UP for those who protect our lives and serve us all so well.”

Former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani blasted Bill de Blasio last Monday after footage emerged of local teens dousing NYPD officers with buckets of water; saying this “disrespect” for uniformed police never would have happened on his watch.

“This disrespect for the uniform in NYC is result of a Democrat-Progressive (Retrogressive)-Socialist Mayor. This is what happens with knee-jerk disrespect for police. It will only get worse until these Left wing idiots are defeated,” posted Giuliani on social media.

Footage shows separate incidents of people in Harlem using buckets to splash and dump water over uniformed officers, as the cops calmly walk away. De Blasio condemned the acts as ‘Completely unacceptable,’ and said, ‘We won’t tolerate this kind of disrespect.’ Still, former mayor Giuliani believes the 2020 presidential candidate is part of the problem,” reports Fox News.

“Our anti-cop lawmakers have gotten their wish: the NYPD is now frozen. It’s not the fault of these police officers. It’s the end result of the torrent of bad policies and anti-police rhetoric that has been streaming out of City Hall and Albany for years now,” said PBA President Patrick Lynch, adding, “Disorder controls the streets, and our elected leaders refuse to allow us to take them back.”

posted by Hannity Staff - 9.18.19

A member of Brooklyn’s Hasidic community was “ambushed” on the city streets and beaten Tuesday night, with NYPD releasing video as the department hunts for a “group of suspects.”

“Surveillance video shows the disturbing incident on Warsoff Place between Flushing and Park Avenues in Bedford-Stuyvesant,” reports CBS New York. “Four men can be seen chasing the 24-year-old victim as he walked home around 9:45 p.m. Tuesday.”

“As violent antisemitism continues to plague NYC, we must come together as New Yorkers to send a clear message that such hateful acts will not be tolerated,” posted former assemblyman Dov Hikind. “Join us on Sun, Sep 22 at 12pm at City Hall Park and let it be known that the city stands unified against antisemitism!”
