OPEN AND SHUT STRAIT: Iran Slams Strait Shut Again After Ditching Nuclear Talks

posted by Hannity Staff - 6.19.26

According to a New York Post report, Iran re-closed the Strait of Hormuz on Friday and threatened to target vessels entering the strategic waterway after pulling out of planned nuclear negotiations with the United States in Switzerland.

The move marks the first major crisis surrounding the memorandum of understanding signed Wednesday by President Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, which was intended to end hostilities and launch talks over Tehran’s nuclear program.

In a statement broadcast over maritime radio channels, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps accused the United States of failing to meet key obligations under the agreement.

“Since Israel’s withdrawal from Lebanon, the complete lifting of the naval blockade, and the withdrawal of American terrorist forces from the Persian Gulf and the region are among the main conditions of the agreement between Iran and the United States, the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until these conditions are met,” the IRGC said.

“All ships are requested, for the sake of their security and safety, not to approach the Strait of Hormuz. Any vessel that defies this directive will be targeted.”

The announcement came just hours after the first round of U.S.-Iran nuclear talks scheduled for Friday in Switzerland was called off.
