Texas Rep. Chip Roy ripped into Congress this week for proposing the development of a federal active shooter alert system; Roy says the bill will ‘create fear among the people’ and states already have their own alert systems.
“This is another example of Washington creating another department, another position, spending more money that we don’t have in order to have a policy objective [and] continuing to advance fear among the American people.”
“Allow the states to make the decision…not bureaucrats in Washington,” Roy says.
“I think it would probably be a more advantageous use of our time to develop a congressional stupidity alert system…that’s what this body is actually engaged in on a regular basis! Harming the American people!” Roy adds.
Florida congressman Matt Gaetz also trashed the bill, saying Democrats just want to make Americans afraid of the 2nd Amendment.
“It’s because they want you to be afraid of the Second Amendment. It’s because they want you to be afraid of responsible gun ownership,” Gaetz said on the House floor Wednesday.

Rep. Matt Gaetz argues that active shooter alerts could do more harm than good by causing people far from the incident to panic:
