New York Governor Andrew Cuomo found himself in hot-water Thursday following a fiery debate with Democratic challenger Cynthia Nixon; referring to federal ICE agents as a “bunch of thugs.”
Cuomo slammed the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency during an exchange with Nixon Wednesday evening regarding President Trump’s immigration policies; saying “New York State is the state that says we will not cooperate with ICE, they’re a bunch of thugs.”
Cuomo also raised eyebrows throughout New York and the nation last week when he bizarrely trashed the United States, saying “America was never really that great.”

Cuomo was speaking at an event in New York this week when he abruptly declared “America was never that great,” citing inequality for women and other minorities living in the United States.
The Governor’s office released a statement clarifying his message Thursday morning, saying “The Governor believes America is great and that her full greatness will be fully realized when every man, woman, and child has full equality.”
“When the President speaks about making America great again – going back in time – he ignores the pain so many endured and that we suffered from slavery, discrimination, segregation, sexism and marginalized women’s contributions,” adds the statement.
