House Judiciary Chair Jerold Nadler threatened Attorney General William Barr with potential legal proceedings Thursday; presiding over a bizarre, Barr-free hearing where lawmakers ate fried chicken at 9AM.
“Nadler, D-N.Y., spoke at what was slated to be a hearing for Barr to testify on his handling of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report. Barr, who testified for hours on the same topic a day earlier on the Senate side, did not show up amid a disagreement over the terms for his appearance in the House,” reports Fox News.
“The president of the United States wants desperately to prevent Congress from providing any check whatsoever on even his most reckless decisions,” Nadler said Thursday. “The challenge we face is that if we don’t stand up to him together, today, we risk not being able to stand up to any president in the future.”
Rep. Steve Cohen -a fierce critic of the Trump administration- likened Barr to a “chicken” as he dined on KFC, saying “Chicken Barr should have shown up today and answered questions.”

“I think spying on a political campaign is a big deal. Especially the generation that I grew up in… the Vietnam War period, people were concerned about spying on anti-war people and so forth by the government,” said Barr.
“I think it’s important to look at that… I think spying did occur,” he added.

COLLUSION DELUSION: Pelosi, Schumer SLAM the Attorney General’s ‘Partisan’ Mueller Report
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer slammed Attorney General William Barr’s “partisan handling” of Robert Mueller’s final report Thursday; dismissing his findings hours before the document is released to Congressional leaders.
“Attorney General Barr’s regrettably partisan handling of the Mueller report, including his slanted March 24th summary letter, his irresponsible testimony before Congress last week, and his indefensible plan to spin the report in a press conference later this morning — hours before he allows the public or Congress to see it — have resulted in a crisis of confidence in his independence and impartiality,” said a joint statement from the Democratic leaders.
“We believe the only way to begin restoring public trust in the handling of the Special Counsel’s investigation is for Special Counsel Mueller himself to provide public testimony in the House and Senate as soon as possible,” they concluded.
