Former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio acknowledged Wednesday that he would vote for a Democratic socialist congressional candidate backed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, even after Sean Hannity laid out a list of the candidate’s most controversial positions, including abolishing police, eliminating prisons and ending immigration enforcement.
During a fiery appearance on Fox News’ Hannity, the longtime Democratic mayor repeatedly tried to pivot away from the candidate’s platform as Hannity pressed him with a straightforward question.
“Would you vote for her?” Hannity asked.
After initially dodging the question, de Blasio ultimately answered, “She is the Democratic nominee. I would vote for her, yes.”
Hannity then detailed the candidate’s record, noting she has called for abolishing police departments and prisons, eliminating America’s borders, ending deportations — even for illegal immigrants convicted of murder and rape — and attending a pro-Palestinian rally in Times Square the day after the Oct. 7 Hamas terrorist attacks.
Instead of defending those positions individually, de Blasio argued the real issue was voter frustration with President Donald Trump and U.S. policy in the Middle East.
As Hannity attempted to steer the conversation back to the candidate’s platform, de Blasio grew visibly frustrated.
“Wait, wait, wait. Let me finish!” he exclaimed while trying to continue his argument.
Hannity wasn’t persuaded.
“She wants to abolish the police, she wants no borders, she wants illegals that commit murder and rape to not go to prison… and you’re telling me you’d vote for this lunatic?” Hannity asked.
Rather than distance himself, de Blasio doubled down.
“Yeah… I don’t think she’s a lunatic. I disagree with her,” he replied, before arguing that Democratic voters are embracing progressive candidates because they want Democrats to confront Trump more aggressively.
