Jeffries finally embraces the radical left…

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) threw his weight behind Zohran Mamdani on Friday, ending months of speculation with a last-minute mayoral endorsement that stunned New York’s political scene.

In a statement to The New York Times, the Brooklyn congressman acknowledged that, while he and Mamdani have “areas of principled disagreement,” Democrats must unite against what he called the “existential” threat posed by President Trump.

“Zohran Mamdani has relentlessly focused on addressing the affordability crisis and explicitly committed to being a mayor for all New Yorkers, including those who do not support his candidacy,” Jeffries wrote.

The endorsement lands less than two weeks before the Nov. 4 election, after months of awkward silence from national Democrats wary of Mamdani’s Democratic Socialist of America label and far-left platform.

Jeffries hinted at the move Thursday during an appearance on Rev. Al Sharpton’s “Keepin’ It Real” radio show.

“I do hope to talk to the Democratic nominee either late today or tomorrow, in advance of early voting,” he said. “I do think that his decision to announce that he would reappoint [NYPD] Commissioner Jessica Tisch is a positive step in the right direction in terms of sending the message that, while he is going to of course focus on affordability — and that is the number one concern of the people in the communities I represent.”

Later, on Bloomberg Television, Jeffries praised Mamdani’s nod to Tisch, calling it “a strong step toward community trust and public safety.”

“Zohran has demonstrated a real partnership with local communities and a willingness to work with all New Yorkers to make the city more affordable and inclusive,” Jeffries added.

The cautious Brooklyn power broker, long seen as the party’s steady hand, has spent months in quiet talks with Mamdani about housing and affordability. Now, with Election Day closing in, Jeffries has made his move.
