During a press conference on Thursday House Speaker Nancy Pelosi confirmed her commitment to passing Build Back Better, despite all reports that the legislation is dead.
“I’m never giving up on BBB. There’s so much in there that is really important in terms of child tax credit, in terms of family healthcare…with universal pre-k. This is about lowering costs for the American people…we must get something done. And of course a very important part of it is what we’re doing about the climate crisis….I’m not giving up on BBB.”
The Speaker’s comments come after Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) confirmed earlier this week that the Build Back Bill as we know it is dead. Manchin also confirmed that no talks were in progress between himself and Democratic leadership.
Asked on Tuesday about the status of BBB, Manchin said, “What Build Back Better bill? There is no, I mean, I don’t know what you all are talking about.” Pressed by a reporter on whether or not he has had talks on the proposal, Manchin said, “No, no, no, it’s dead.”
“It’s dead,” said Manchin.
Sen. @JoeManchinWV says President Biden’s multi-trillion dollar #BuildBackBetter social spending package “is dead,” dashing any lingering Democratic hopes that Manchin will rally behind a further scaled-down version. https://t.co/W53ZMqUQEt
